Preparing an Amazon listing and launch

Getting a product live without it sitting unsellable

Cartons can reach Amazon while shoppers still cannot buy.

Jose, CEO at Stonedove

The shipment arrived. I felt finished. Then the listing was half built, the main image was a phone photo I had meant to replace, and the barcode on the carton did not match the one in Seller Central. We paid to store a product nobody could purchase. The delay was not bad luck. We had done the steps in the wrong order.

Work backward from the day a stranger can buy

That day needs stock Amazon will actually let someone purchase, a finished page, a price, and a way to be found. The day the factory finishes is not that day. I write the buyable date first, then I walk backward and see which step is late.

Example only. Your numbers will be different.

Leave spare days between those marks. A plan that only works when every handoff is perfect is a wish with dates on it.

Gates, not a pile of tasks

I do not start the next gate because I am impatient. Printing boxes before the sample is approved is how you own a stack of wrong cartons. Turning ads on before units are buyable is how you pay for clicks that cannot convert.

Sample

It is done when
It matches the spec in your hands
Too early if you
Print the boxes

Artwork

It is done when
Barcode and warnings are on it, at real size
Too early if you
Send it to mass print

Freight

It is done when
The date has spare days
Too early if you
Promise a public launch day

Listing

It is done when
It is readable on a phone
Too early if you
Turn ads on

Check-in

It is done when
Units are really buyable
Too early if you
Judge whether people want it

The weeks on the water are not empty

Freight is the quiet time, and it is when the listing should be finished. Upload the real images. Read the page on a phone. Fix the category and any size or color structure before stock arrives. Changing a parent listing after units land is slower and messier than doing it while the page is empty.

If the photos are late, do not ship a bigger order to “make the date.” A late image on a small pile is a smaller mess than a full container attached to a broken page. I have chosen the small pile. It felt timid. It was the grown-up choice.

When Amazon checks the boxes in, confirm the count before you send anyone to the page. Day one is the first day a shopper can buy. Those first days prove the page works. They do not prove the size of the market.

This is the same path we run in the Amazon Selling System. You approve the product, the factory, and the launch. We do the work.
